THE ÅKERMAN ORGAN

Uppsala Cathedral’s main organ at the west end was built in 1871 by Per Larsson Åkerman. He was apprentice to Cavaillé-Coll amongst others and the organ therefore has a number of French-romantic features. It was rebuilt in 1939-1940 by the same firm and renovated in 1976 by Walter Thür. Some of the stops have been altered, but the organ still possesses most of its original character.

THE RUFFATTI ORGAN

In the spring of 2008 a new organ will be installed in the north transept of Uppsala Cathedral. It will be built by the Italian firm Fratelli Ruffatti, Padua. The principal tasks of this instrument will be to function within the daily offices of the liturgy and to accompany the cathedral choirs. The new organ will also be able to cope with a large amount of the organ repertoire.
